Consultant General Surgeon | Trauma Medical Director – Bay of Plenty | Director, Omnia Healthcare
Mr Jacques Marnewick is a Consultant General Surgeon and the Trauma Medical Director for the Bay of Plenty, with broad experience in general, laparoscopic, thyroid, and parathyroid surgery. As a Director of Omnia Healthcare, he brings strong clinical expertise and leadership, ensuring patient safety and clinical excellence remain central to Omnia’s care delivery. His practice includes gallbladder, hernia, intestinal, skin, and thyroid procedures, as well as urgent lymph node biopsies supporting haematology and oncology services.
Trained in New Zealand and internationally, Mr Marnewick completed his medical training at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital before gaining experience in emergency and trauma surgery in South Africa. He later completed specialist and subspecialty surgical training in New Zealand, Auckland, and Melbourne, and remains committed to high-quality, patient-centred surgical care.

Mr Richard Somerville is a Consultant Spinal Surgeon with extensive experience in the surgical management of cervical and lumbar spinal conditions. As a specialist at Omnia Healthcare, he brings deep clinical expertise and a strong commitment to patient-centred care. His practice focuses on orthopaedic spinal surgery using microsurgical techniques, including decompression, stabilisation, discectomy, and fusion procedures for both acute and degenerative spinal conditions.
Trained in New Zealand and internationally, Mr Somerville completed a specialist spinal fellowship at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, UK, and continues to incorporate advanced technologies such as image-guided surgery to support optimal patient outcomes.
